As introduced at the 1961 Geneva Show the E-type came as a roadster or fixed-head coupT with a 6-cylinder, 3.8, 265bhp engine. From 1964 the 4.2-litre engine was fitted but this offered little extra in the way of performance. Automatic transmission and a 2+2 coupT came in 1966 with a lengthened wheelbase but the body styling was far less aesthetic. The new V12 engine introduced in 1971 turned the E-type into a Series III model and completed the transformation from race-bred sports car to grand tourer. This is a book of contemporary road and comparison tests, specification and technical data, new model introductions, driver's impressions, long-term tests and buying second hand. Models covered include: 3.8 CoupT, 3.8 Roadster, 4.2 CoupT, 4.2 Roadster, 2+2, Automatic.
